Renfrew

East Side, Vancouver

Technically part of Hastings-Sunrise, Renfrew is home to a large mix of middle-class multicultural residents, independent retailers and restaurants.

The eastern gateway to Vancouver.

With major thoroughfares on Hastings, Broadway and Grandview Highway, Renfrew serves as an eastern gateway to the city and, with its quick access to major routes, adds to the attraction to live in the area.

This popular East Vancouver community has some amazing views of the north shore mountains and growing skyline of Brentwood. Quiet and comfortable, the neighbourhood is an ideal location for growing families, with the vast green space and large selection of schools nearby.

Parks are plentiful in this picturesque community.

Dotted throughout the community are picturesque parks, highlighted by the amenity rich Rupert Park.

The flagship green space in the community, Rupert Park in has a plethora of amenities like walking trails, perfect for taking your dog for a walk, playgrounds, baseball diamond, football field and The Rupert Pitch ‘N’ Putt

At the top of the ridge is Sunset Park, boasting some amazing views of the north short mountains and the Brentwood skyline.  The park is vast, included a baseball diamond, soccer field, playground, wading pool, and it’s home to the Sunrise Community Association Hall.

The area has two excellent community centres and a myriad of schools.

The schools of the area are very mixed, offering excellent language programs and the promotion of culture sharing and respect.

Residents of Renfrew are spoiled with two community centres in the neighbourhood. The Thunderbird Community Centre offers a wide range of programs for everyone from pre-school to adults.  They also have a computer lab, a fitness centre and they offer child care services. To the south is the Hastings Community Centre, which includes a gymnasium, fitness centres, computer labs, racquetball court, family drop-in centre, childcare and playgrounds. 

There are six public elementary schools in, or near Renfrew (Graham Bruce, Renfrew, Grenfell, Nootka, Carleton and Norquay ) and two public high schools (Windermere and Vancouver Technical).

Big box, local shops and eclectic eateries.

Residents enjoy shopping along Grandview Hwy, East 1st Avenue, Commercial Drive & Hastings Street.

The “East Village” is a stretch along Hastings Street with a mix of one-of-a-kind establishments, newer restaurants and bars and older, family-owned shops. You can find residents strolling the street in search of a cup of coffee, quaint eateries and essentials like small and large chain pharmacies and grocery stores.

There’s also a strip mall on Renfrew and 1st Ave with several shops, services and a TnT Supermarket.  Wander up to Grandview Highway for your big box retail therapy. Superstore, Canadian Tire and Walmart are just some of the major brand names on hand.
