Stretching between W16th Avenue and West 41st Avenue, South Cambie runs parallel between Cambie Street and Oak Street. Renowned for its top notch hospitals, great educational institutions and easy access to awesome shopping and eateries, South Cambie is hard to beat.
South Cambie is located on the west side of Vancouver and bordered by Oakridge, South Vancouver, Marpole and South Granville.
No matter where you turn in South Cambie, there’s some greenspace waiting for you. On the south end of the community is Oak Meadows Park with a running track and soccer field. The north end has Douglas Park, the main park in the neighbourhood. From a running track to baseball diamond, there’s plenty of things to do here. You can also take your furry friend on a walk at 37th and Oak.
Only a couple blocks east is Queen Elizabeth Park, and just west is VanDuzen Botanical Gardens. It really doesn’t get much better.
Douglas Park Community Centre features a full range of cardio equipment, free weights and much more. Hillcrest Community Centre, the curling venue to the 2010 Winter Olympic, is a world-class facility featuring an NHL sized skating rink, dance centre, indoor pool, fitness centre and an outdoor playground. aquatic and fitness centres. It’s next door neighourhood, Nat Bailey Stadium, is home to the minor league baseball team, The Vancouver Canadians.
The BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre are in the neighbourhood. If you opt not to drive or need to commute, the Cambie corridor is home to the Canada Line (another big perk from the 2010 Olympics), can take you to the Vancouver International Airport (south) or waterfront station in the downtown core (north).
For such a small area, there’s a lot of educational institutions here, including Eric Hamber Secondary School, Emily Carr Elementary School, Edith Cavell Elementary School, and the francophone Rose-des-Vents and École secondaire Jules-Verne schools.
Cambie Village is literally peppered with unique local shops, services and ethnic eats. Choices Market is your go to for organics, baked goods & day-to-day staples. Quaint coffee shops, trendy restaurants, delicious baked goods, specialty shops and small eateries.
South Granville is home to a great selection of local shops, dining, lifestyle and fine art stores and pharmacies.
Kerrisdale Village is home to a mix of older, locally-owned shops and newer boutiques, as well as charming cafés, eateries, and organic markets.
