Dunbar

West Side, Vancouver

Predominantly a residential neighbourhood, Dunbar is a favourite for both families, and students at UBC.

With its lush, tree-lined streets, Dunbar picturesque old school feel has a trapped-in-amber quality.

The neighbourhood is primarily residential except for a couple of streets, notably Dunbar Street and West 41st Avenue, which are full of shops, restaurants and services.

High incomes, well-heeled, highly-educated residents and sophisticated tastes translate to Dunbar being one of Vancouver’s most affluent neighbourhoods.

Dunbar is located on the west side of Vancouver and bordered by Arbutus Ridge, MacKenzie Heights, Southlands, Point Grey and University.

The abundant amount of green space in Dunbar is nothing short of impressive.

Chaldecott Park features a fun water park for the kids, while Balaclava and Camosun Parks both also have running tracks, baseball diamonds and large grassy infields.

Pacific Spirit Park, which borders the western edge of the community, is easily the crown jewel of parks in the city.  Though technically part of University UBC, the Pacific Spirit trails are easily accessed from the western ends of West 33rd Ave, West 37th Ave, West 39th Ave and King Edward Avenue.

Some of Vancouver’s best private and public schools are located in Dunbar.

The community is home to some of the city’s top echelon private schools – Crofton House and St. George’s.

Elementary schools include Queen Elizabeth Annex, Queen Elizabeth Lord Kitchener.  Anchoring the community is The Dunbar Community Centre which offers a full range of programs and events for residents, along with excellent amenities including a banquet hall, fitness centre, gym, pottery room and squash courts. The Vancouver Public Library offers computers, printing & copying, board games and free Wi-Fi.

Dunbar Village is a quaint street offering every shop, service and convenience necessary.

Shops and services can be found running the length of Dunbar Street from West 16th to West 41st Avenue.

From ethnic eateries to an old school movie theatre, the restaurants, shops & services are some of the best in the city. The highlight is easily the historic Dunbar Theatre, which as been in operation since 1935!  There’s a wide selection of groceries in the community, including Strong’s and Safe-On-Foods.  The Dunbar Village Association has nearly 250 shops, services & businesses to serve local residents.
